A Few Tips on Maintaining the Tires in Your Fleet

Your tires are critically important for the safety and reliability of your fleet. Using old, worn-out, or even wrong-sized tires can cause a major mishap. This is why it is imperative that you take extra care of your tires.

1. Check the Threads

If the threads on your tires look faded and the tire itself appears smooth, it is absolutely imperative that you change your tires immediately. If you don’t – your vehicle might have a major accident! Worn-out tires are not only susceptible to bursting at high speeds, but the vehicle doesn’t stop easily when you apply the brakes. This holds particularly true if it’s a fully laden truck.

2. Check Tire Pressure Before Every Major Trip

If the tire pressure is low, the vehicle will feel very sluggish. Under pressured tires will consume more fuel as the engine would have to exert extra power to move the truck or any other vehicle. It will also drastically decrease the service life of even new tires.

On the other hand, over-pressured tires are susceptible to bursting at high speeds, especially if you have to brake suddenly. This is why it is so important to make sure that your vehicle’s tire pressure is consistently maintained at the settings mentioned in your vehicle’s instruction manual.

3. Never Compromise on the Quality of the Tires in Your Fleet

Tires are made of rubber, which has a certain shelf life. This is why it is never a good idea to equip your fleet with refurbished or used tires. In fact, it is downright risky. Always use brand new and fresh tires as per your requirements. For example, you may need tires with extra grip for traveling at high speeds on highways and main roads. Conversely, you might need tires with broader threads for maximum traction for more off-road work.
